OB SUMMARY
We are seeking a qualified MIG Welder / Fabricator to join a skilled team working on the refurbishment and restoration of buildings and structural steel components. The role involves cutting, fabricating, and welding structural steel to repair and replace damaged, worn, or outdated sections of existing buildings and structures.

ABOUT THE ROLE
This role suits a qualified and experienced welder/fabricator with a strong background in structural steel. You'll work as part of a team at all times, alongside experienced tradespeople — you will not be expected to undertake the work alone. The role is predominantly based in a warehouse/workshop environment, with regular requirements to attend onsite locations for repair, fabrication, and installation work.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Carry out MIG and ARC/MMA welding of structural steel components
  • Cut, measure, and prepare steel for repairs and replacement
  • Fabricate steel components to required specifications
  • Repair and replace sections of existing structural steel
  • Read and interpret drawings, measurements, and job specifications
  • Read, understand, and follow Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS)
  • Set welding equipment and parameters in accordance with required procedures
  • Ensure welds meet required quality and structural standards
  • Grind, clean, and finish welded components
  • Assist with building refurbishment and structural repair projects
  • Work safely and maintain a clean and organised work area
  • Work collaboratively with welders, fabricators, and other tradespeople
  • Undertake onsite work as required
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Relevant welding/fabrication qualification
  • Proven MIG welding experience
  • ARC/MMA welding experience
  • Previous structural steel fabrication experience
  • Experience cutting, fitting, and fabricating structural steel
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS)
  • Ability to consistently weld to specified procedures, settings, and quality requirements
  • Ability to accurately measure, mark, cut, and prepare materials
  • Comfortable working in both workshop and site environments
  • Strong understanding of workplace health and safety
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
  • Reliable, punctual, and physically capable of performing the duties required
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Right to work in New Zealand
